Power of Social Media and Influencers

Last week, a friend of mine posted a video on Youtube of him doing longsnapping trick shots. The video gained about 30,000 views in 2 days. I believe this was party due to the fact that, both a football website and Deadspin posted and tweeted about his video. This shows that, if the right people see a video, they can greatly influence the view count.

Since the video was released, he has had several interviews with news stations, and has a couple more planned in the upcoming weeks. His story really shows us how anyone can make a viral video. When he made the video, he had no intention of it going viral. I am interested to see how the view count changes in the upcoming weeks after he is shown on several of the news stations.

  1. As we discussed in class, it is very hard for videos to go ‘viral’ without some involvement of traditional media. I think this is a great example of it.
