Social Media Demographics: The Surprising Identity Of Each Major Social Network

This article from Business Insider goes through the recent demographic changes to social media sights. This is especially useful to businesses who are using social media to advertise because it is important for them to know the most effective way to reach their target audience. I found a couple of the statistics surprising. For example, the 45-54 year old age bracket has seen a 45% increase for Facebook just in the past year.

  1. I was surprised that Tumblr skews towards a wealthier population. I would have not predicted that. I wonder if they measure household income when the users are minors. That might explain this effect.
