Why was Miley’s VMA Performance the Top Story on CNN for the Morning After?

Was Miley’s VMA performance really worthy of being a headliner on CNN.com–“The Worldwide Leader in News”? No, absolutely not. However, in today’s society, it is not all about politics and leaders and world peace; it is about getting more traffic on CNN.com. The more clicks CNN.com gets, the more advertising revenue comes in. And those links at the bottom of the article that lead to a slideshow, we are all guilty of mindlessly clicking through them just because it only takes two minutes to flip through, so why not.

So it is not about what really matters in the world, it is about MONEY. It is about what the readers WANT to read. Because, truth be told, the day after the VMA’s, a Miley story would do a lot better than United Nations story.

  1. This is sad but true. It seems as though all sites slowly decline towards the lowest common denominator, focusing on traffic rather than quality of content.
